August 1-7, 2010 is Virginia Farmers’ Market Week and there’s a Virginia Farmers’ Market Photo Contest that’s apparently been going on since last month (it ends August 18).
The prize is food, how awesome is that? I feel like every prize for every contest should include food. Even the lottery. Congrats, here’s your 10 million dollars PLUS your giant basket of cookies and Twizzlers.
I don’t have a Farmers’ Market photo, but check out this bizarre-o tomato I snapped the other week in the garden from which I pilfer:
What the heck is this variety? It looks like a pear. I looked up pear tomatoes, but they don’t look the same.
It’s a mystery.
Food tip: Zucchini bread with M&M’s doesn’t work too well. Shoulda used minis, but was baking it as a favor and the full-size bag is what I got handed. Think half of the candy was left in the bottom of the loaf pan.
The oat topping* made up for it, though. I found it somewhere online whilst digging one day and it kicks ass:
½ c plain ol’ rolled oats
½ c brown sugar
¼ c flour
¼ tsp cinnamon
¼ c butter (I used fake butter, it worked fine)
*Wait until the last 10-15 minutes of baking to add, after the bread is pretty much solidified, otherwise the topping caves in the bread and it’s not really a topping anymore.
